Boundary Review ProcessThe Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (NSUARB) has ordered the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) to submit a Boundary Review application by December 2010. Given the specific recommendations by the NSUARB in this regard, Council has directed that an outside consultant be engaged to work with the Committee of the Whole designated as the Boundary Review Committee to carry out a two-phased process to review the boundaries of polling districts and the number of Councillors. Each phase shall include as a priority initiatives to gather public input in accordance with the directives contained in the NSUARB Order of October 2007. The final recommendation will be brought back to Council in time for submission of the application by the December 2010 deadline. CBRM has engaged Stantec Consulting Limited to review the size of its Regional Council and, following determination of the most appropriate number of councillors, to draw appropriate boundaries for required polling districts. A blog site has been prepared by Stantec to provide interested members of the CBRM community with information concerning the project and its progress. As the project progresses, we will post information on consultation processes required for this project as they are scheduled, and provide reports on the results of our research and consultation. In addition, an online questionnaire is available for CBRM residents to fill out. A link to the blog is provided as follows: http://cbrmboundaryreview.wordpress.com/ |
