Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design Presents March Break Activities 2018

Looking for a few creative ways to keep your kids entertained during March Break? We have you covered!

Activities #1 Kids & Printmaking (Cost $90)

Date: March 12 - 16 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Instructor: Tamsin Sloots

Ages: 8 - 12

Don’t worry about eating your veggies in this printmaking workshop! In this class, kids explore the amazing shapes, patterns and textures that nature offers, while learning about creating repeating images and other printmaking basics. Kids will get to carve into, ink up and print a variety of fruits and vegetables on paper and fabric. Maximum class size is 8.

 

Activities #2 Kids & Craft (Cost $70)

Date: March 12 - 16 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Instructor: Amanda Delaney

Ages: 7 - 13

Combine creativity, fun and (don’t tell the kids) learning and you have our Kids ‘N’ Craft Workshop. We will allow kids to express their creativity with painting and other fun crafts! Materials are included.

 

Activities #3 Kids ‘N’ Clay (Cost $100)

Date: March 12 - 16 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm OR 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Instructor: Trevor Novak

Ages: 7 - 13

In this sculptural hand building class, kids will learn to create figures and animals in clay using coils, slabs, and pinching! These techniques are sure to fire up the kids imaginations, giving them the tools to create whatever they can dream up, a person, animal or a hybrid of the two! Students will leave the class with unique sculptural creations they can call their own, and some hands on experience working with foundational ceramic techniques.

 

Activities #4 Kids Fibre & Indigo Natural Dyeing (Cost $70)

Date: March 12 - 16 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Instructor: Tamsin Sloots

Ages: 7 - 13

Get your hands fluffy and explore fibre! In this class, kids will be introduced to some basic fibre techniques including spinning, finger knitting, and crochet. Kids will experience how fibre goes from a fluffy roving to a yarn to a knitted or crochet fabric through hands-on fun and interactive demonstrations. Explore the magic of Indigo dyeing! In this class kids will get to play with a natural indigo vat, and be introduced to the idea of natural dyeing: how to use found natural materials to make dyes. Through tying, wrapping, clamping, clipping, and tugging students will prepare bundles of fabric to dip in the indigo vat and create their very own tie-dyed accessories, all in amazing shades of indigo blue!

 

Activities #5 Jewellery for Teenagers (Cost $100)

Date: March 12 - 16 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Instructor: Violeta Izguierdo

Ages:14+

Learn how to make your own piece of jewellery! By creating your own charms and using jump rings students will learn how to make a bracelet or a necklace. Students will also learn how to solder a ring and personalize it by adding texture or their own cut out shapes.

Taste of Winter: Jr. Learn to Curl (-)

Bring a clean pair of sneakers and hit the ice for a free introductory lesson and game in one of Canada's signature sports. Experienced instructors will be on hand to help you with your form and to have a ton of fun.

Taste of Winter: Jr. Learn to Curl is open to individuals under 16 years old at the Schooner Curling Club. Helmets are required for children under 12, and are recommended for older youth.
