Come join the fun from 10:00am – 3:00pm as our Officer Cadets lead guided tours highlighting the Planetarium, Waterfront Facilities and Officer Cadet Residences.

See what it’s like to navigate a real Coast Guard vessel in our Navigation Simulator! Learn the ins and outs of an engine room in our Marine Engineering Training Building!  Watch as our Officer Cadets perform a drill demonstration, a water rescue demonstration and try your hand at knot tying. Bring the family and let the kids play at our “Little Cadet Corner” and enjoy lunch in the galley!

Take a tour of our marketplace to explore our partnerships and programs. Follow our tour guides around the Electronics and Informatics Technology Training and Marine Communications & Traffic Services departments as well as the dorms, and learn exactly what it’s like to be an Officer Cadet at the Coast Guard College from our student panel!

Jane's Walk (Sat. 5 May, 2018 2:00 pm)

Jane's Walk

Saturday May 5, 2018

Whitney Pier's Ward Five. Multicultural, Industrial and still Discoverable.

This year we will be exploring the historic ward 5 district of Sydney's Whitney Pier.

In 2014 the development of Whitney Pier was designated a National Historic Event as it brought many varied cultures together to help build and work at the Sydney Steel Plant.

The walk starts the at Whitney Pier Historical Museum (former Adath Israel Synagogue) at 2:00 PM. The museum will be open so we invite people to come early and look around if they wish.

In keeping with the spirit of the Jane's Walks this year's urban walk will take us past St. Philip's African Orthodox Church, Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, St. Mary's Polish Church, the Whitney Pier Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers, Big Sisters and sites of current or former ethno-cultural halls and businesses along the Victoria Road commercial area, plus the recently named Galicia St.

This will be a very compact, easy walk of approximately 2 kilometres length and 2.5 hours duration. As in past years walkers often become occasional tour guides offering insight into shops, places, streets and neighbourhoods often overlooked. All are welcome to attend and participate.
