Within the CBRM, there are numerous facilities, services and programs designed to support health and wellness in our communities. The majority of these facilities, programs and services are administered by the Cape Breton District Health Authority.
The Cape Breton District Health Authority is an integrated health care organization with facilities and services in the CBRM, as well as in Victoria and Inverness Counties. The District is one of nine health authorities that came into existence across the province of Nova Scotia in January 2001.
The District provides primary, secondary and tertiary care to a population of approximately 140,000 people. Our urban and rural population mix is served by Regional, Community and Rural Hospitals and, Rehabilitation and Continuing Care Facilities. Two Community programs Addiction Services and Public Health Services are shared with the Guysborough Antigonish Strait Health Authority. The District employs approximately 3000 people.
