Winter Collection Reminders

Each collection day, CBRM Solid Waste Collectors do their best to complete their collection routes as scheduled. However, weather, visibility, road conditions or mechanical problems may cause collection delays or in some instances lead to missed collection.

During the winter, there may be times when collection vehicles are unable to service all homes due to road conditions. The decision not to have collection vehicles travel on a road is based on the condition of an areas road(s) at the time of collection and is made in consultation with the Solid Waste Department.

When areas of the municipality are unable to be serviced due to weather, visibility or road conditions, residents are required to remove their materials from the curbs and place out on your areas next regularly scheduled garbage and green cart collection day and blue bags will be collected on your areas next regularly scheduled blue bag collection week. Residents are encouraged to phone the Waste Management Hotline to inform us about missed collection.

How can residents learn more information about the status of curbside collection?

Residents are encouraged to contact the Waste Management Hotline for curbside collection inquiries. The telephone number for contacting the Waste Management Hotline is 567-1337. Educators are available to respond to inquiries from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

For your convenience, the Solid Waste Management site located on SPAR Road in Sydney is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

What should residents do if their street/road has not received curbside collection?

On your curbside collection day, if your materials have not been collected by the end of the day, please remove your materials from the curb and place out on your next regularly scheduled collection day for Garbage and Green Carts and your areas next regularly scheduled Blue Bag collection day.

If your materials have been tagged by the collector, residents are encouraged to review the tag to determine why materials were left behind uncollected.
