During the 2018 Trashformer Program, the Trashformers' have been asked to track and compile data on the following information this summer:

 

• Number of garbage bags filled with litter and debris.

 

• The weight of these materials removed from our streets and public areas.

 

The Trashformer Team will also compile data on the following litter items listed below during this season’s program:

 

Refundable items

 

Fast food wrappers

 

Hot drink cups

 

Cold drink cups

 

Cigarette packages

 

Cigarettes butts

 

Sharps (needles)

 

The Trashformers will also note any odd or unusual items they pick up each week from the community.

 

 

Month of August 2018:  Progress Report

 

Week 11 of the Trashformer Program: Monday, August 6, 2018 to Friday, August 10, 2018

 

165 garbage bags were filled with litter and debris and disposed of at the Waste ManagementFacility by the Trashformers.

 

The total weight of the contents contained in the 165 garbage bags they filled was 580 kg or 0.58 tonnes.

 

The Trashformers picked up:

 

465        Refundable beverage containers

 

440        Fast food wrappers

 

510        Hot drink cups

 

340        Cold drink cups

 

540        Cigarette packages

 

800        Cigarette butts

 

2            Sharps (needles)

 

Some of the uncommon items the Trashformers removed from their cleanup area's during the Week of August 6, 2018 to August 10, 2018 included:

 

3 television sets

 

 Counter top

 

 3 shopping carts

 

 meat packaging

 

 printer

 

 3 large signs

 

 2 pallets

 

 Numerous bags of rope

 

 Baby wipes

 

 Large chain

 

 

Week 12 of the Trashformer Program: Monday, August 13, 2018 to Friday, August 17, 2018

 

127 garbage bags were filled with litter and debris and disposed of at the Waste Management
Facility by the Trashformers.

 

The total weight of the contents contained in the 127 garbage bags they filled was 370 kg or 0.37 tonnes.

 

The Trashformers picked up:

 

295           Refundable beverage containers

 

710           Fast food wrappers

 

1,200        Hot drink cups

 

750           Cold drink cups

 

455           Cigarette packages

 

450           Cigarette butts

 

 

4               Sharps (needles)
