Night of Lights - Canada Day 2022

CBRM Celebrates Community with Night of Lights on July 1

Building on last year’s “Better Together” digital presentation, Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) today announced their “Night of Lights” event to take place on July 1 at Open Hearth Park in Sydney. The community event will feature a children’s stage, activities for all ages, and live music headlined by platinum selling artists Crash Test Dummies and Cape Breton’s own Carleton Stone.

“With two years apart in the middle of the pandemic, a lot has happened in the world to change our perspectives and grow as people,” says Arts, Culture, and Creative Events Coordinator Joe Costello. “We recognize the harsh truths that have been revealed, the changes that need to be made, and we celebrate the strength, resilience, and lives of our friends, family, and neighbours as we move ahead together towards a more prosperous and understanding community. It is time for us all to come together.”

Night of Lights will begin at 4PM with activities throughout Open Hearth Park. The games village will feature water wars, velcro wall, axe throwing, and more, while Albert Bridge Alpacas will be available for petting. The Children’s Stage will feature entertainment aimed at our youngest residents including iconic children’s performer Duncan Wells and the Apple in a Tree Gang, Gordie ‘Crazylegs’ MacKeeman’s Folk for Little Folk, and science and theremin obsessed performer Dr. G.

Beginning at 5:30PM, live music will emanate from the Mainstage with local rising star Elyse Aeryn, bluegrass quartet Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys, Carleton Stone, and Platinum selling stars Crash Test Dummies as the soundtrack to our evening. At 10PM, fireworks will light up the night sky with a dazzling display that will surely be a favourite for the young and the young at heart.

Night of Lights is free admission and is the exclamation point on a full day of community activities throughout the CBRM. A full list of community events will be available at www.cbrmcanadaday.ca in the coming days.
